I finally got the ignition switch removed from my 64 1/2 coupe F code (260 V8) and was planning on replacing the switch and cylinder. I found that the wires coming out of the plug had quite a bit of insulation missing, so also decided to replace the plug with a new plug pigtail (see attached picture). Upon receiving the new switch and plug pigtail from CJ Pony Parts, I found that the original switch had 3 lugs and the new switch had 4 lugs, and the original plug had 4 wires and the new plug pigtail had 3 wires. My car does have a generator (I believe the original). Does anyone have thoughts about how I should handle this? Does someone make a 3-lug replacement switch? I could use some liquid insulation on the wires and probably re-use the plug, but I would prefer replacing it. The black/green wire from the original plug is not included in the new plug pigtail. I can terminate it with a spade lug and plug it into the 4th lug on the new switch (outside the plug), but I'm not sure this would produce the correct circuit(s). Li'l help here?

Have you got a copy of the "64 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual"? I see the answer but there is more to your question.
The second point is sort of sensitive, avoid CJ Pony.

I have the assembly manuals for 67-68 but not 64. Guess I should make the investment. Do you have the answer to my questions? Also, I have had pretty good luck with CJ Pony, I'm curious of the reason for your recommendation to avoid them.

The 64 Electrical Manual shows four wires to the ignition switch, three in a connector (actually four) and one to the center stud. (You need a magnifying glass to read color codes.) It seems you may not have the correct connector type.

It appears you procured the wrong ignition switch replacement plug. Every 64.5-66 had 3 lugs and 4 wires coming out of the molded connector plus the ring connector that attaches to the ignition switch post on top. 4 lug switches are 1967, IIRC.
The 64.5 ignition switch plug is somewhat unique in its color coding of the wires. If you want a usable used one, I have a couple in stock.
