I have a new raw trunk divider panel for my 65 coupe with a black interior.
What is the proper color/installation of this panel, and should the trunk panel on the driver's side trunk floor be painted?

As a start the insulating panel would be the same on all cars. Since it would not be seen from the interior the interior color does not play a part in the finish or look. Suggest you start by looking at the examples in the Unrestored Picture Thread section of the site under 65 and then Dearborn coupes. If that is not enough to satisfy your questions ask again. Believe some of those great examples should help and provide details yet asked or noticed. Mikes Fall 64 coupe is a really outstanding example and there are some nice pictures posted there

Guess your referring to the panels on a coupe that surround the panel you asked about above. The visible areas viewable from the trunk when standing upward were typically painted with the rest of the trunk. Not allot of effort and care was taken to paint the upper edges and the horizontal package tray panel every time so might be a combination of bare steel, red oxide and or light gray primer overspray in those areas
Will look through my pictures to see if I can document any change in materials within the production period. These dividers changed over the years in design and materials used

Thank you, the pics in the 64 category were very good and answered my question, the panel in several different pics is black. thank you.Did not think to look in 64 before posting my questions.

Not suggesting that looking at cars from a different production period (at or about 6 months difference) would be the end of my searching. Just a good place to start
To that end I've posted some examples of what appear to be original panels below for your and others consideration. Appears that its the same or similar to the product we see at the other two plants. Multiple layer (not corrugated) cardboard product of some type dyed all the way through typically in black. Though there was one odd ball I found that appeared not to have been dyed for some reason. Just posting it so that we find others of the same style from the same plant and time period we can start following that. At this time would suggest going that route
Hope these help

I ordered the panel from CJ. Received it yesterday, it was black on both sides as in the pictures posted to help me.
Thank you and I'm getting better navigating this great site. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
I can tell y'all, it was hot taking everything apart to replace the package tray and divider, but well worth it.

Glad it worked out for you. Might suggest you post a couple of pictures to show what your received and installed for others to view.
Just a thought
