Title: 67 Rear Bumper Guards - May 67 NJ car
Post by: 68 GT on October 03, 2022, 12:37:16 PM
The 67 NJ car we?re restoring didn?t have much of the front end on the car, some pieces were missing. The rear bumper guards were painted body color with a black rubber piece in it. Are the front bumper guards to be painted body color or chrome with the black rubber piece?

As you found the rear bumper guards were painted body color with a rubber strip. The front bumper guards should be all chrome with no rubber strip.

Note post-strike the bumper guards became optional.

Marty, I was under the impression that 67 fronts had the rubber strip.  I thought that the rubber strip delete happened at the transition to the 1968 model year or perhaps a bit later.

Note post-strike the bumper guards became optional.

Post strike would be pertinent to the 1968 model year

So with the build date of the NJ car of 5-11-67, just chrome bumper guards in the front with no rubber strip?

My 67 NJ is June and has no strips in front, just chrome.

Looks like my memory was so-so.  It was a running change, but in late 67 not at early 68.   According to the MPC, which as we know is only a general reference, the change date was May 8, 1967.  With the OP build date of May 11, that is pretty close!

Been discussed before, might want to merge and streamline.  https://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=20117.0

Opps I looked at his 68 GT name and did not catch that he was asking about a 67. Yes, the changeover to all chrome in started late 67.

Thanks for the input! I will do body colored bumper guards in the back with the rubber strips and chrome bumper guards in the front with no rubber strips.

Very close. Too close to call without another "actual build date" matching up to the O.P.'s car.

Without other evidence coming forward, it very well could have chromed front bumper guards either with or without the strip inserts imho.

We actually found what we can assume are the original front bumper guards! They are chrome with the black rubber inserts!
