How do you identify 1970 factory original rear slats(louvers) from a New Jersey 1970 Mustang Mach 1 built on 10 Sep 69. Is it spot welds, numbers on backside of louvers, type of hinges.
Thank you for the technical assistance.

Should I remove this question or is this a technical question that should be posted in a different place
-
Original ones have the numbers on the back side and the the hinges are chrome diecast
-
I think that they are the same as 69 but have not confirmed that. If so you have the bead welds, numbers and chrome plated hinges as Dragpack 70 wrote
Sorry don't have a set to compare, take pictures and post but post is in the best location just not as many 70 owners out there as 69's

Only 902 factory installed louvers in 1969. 9300 in 1970.

Agree since this was a option released in the spring and even in the early days of this option its been reported that the supply of them was not great to start out.

Please advise me on the pics of the rear slats for factory or ford service part correctness.

Apparently Ed hasn't seen the post or thread as I would expect he could confirm what you have from the pictures
As mentioned I don't have any specific 70 slats to compare. Suggest you try posting on the Boss Registry more 70 owners over there and your more likely to get a confirmation and or answers about this specific question

The numbers were stamped bottom center 1 2 3 4 5 starting at top as each slat was marked with a number when assembled from what i remember. The service nos slats were the same as assembly line and the repos i think were made by the original vendor as they are very close to OEM.
-
Thanks Ed. Who where do you think the ones with no numbers, assuming that the OP didn't miss them, come from. If you know
-
I think they were made by an ohio company but dont remember .
-
Thank you everyone for the great help in regards to sport slat info.
We're the ford factory rear slats upper hinges die cast or stainless????
I wonder if the slats were made by the Cleveland Ohio company that made the rear spoiler.
-
Were the ford factory rear slats upper hinges die cast or stainless????
The hinges were chromed die cast metal of some sort
Definitely not stainless steel.

+1 Yes you don't seem to find them rusty so not certain what the base is

Here is a pic of the back side of one of my louvers.
You can see the welds and numbers stamped into each.
Note that the top one does not have a "1", but 2-6 are numbered.
This set of louvers was installed by my car's second owner circa 1974. They were purchased through the local Ford dealer's parts counter, and were not installed at the factory.

Another data point. I bought a unused louver set from mustang parts of MI in 84. The seller said they were OEM. The attached installation instructions came with the louvers. They are physically identical to the pictures and have the same style numbers in the same center locations on the slats. Alan

Guess we still don't know if 69 and 70 versions are different. Would take a pretty good survey or at least multiple reports with VINs from slats from unrestored reliable cars.

69 same as 70
