Title: 67 ps hose strap

Looking for information on a PS hose strap detail.  Referring to the pics below, the one without strap is my car before disassembly - it has no strap but does have a plastic retainer where one might have been. The one with strap was found combing through picture files.  Is the strap correct?  Is the strap material similar to the A/C hose straps discussed on occasion? Any better pics out there? check for a second strap location on the inside surface of the drivers side shock tower - low

Think if you do a search we discussed these straps a while back. Or it could have been another forum ;)

You mentioned a plastic retainer - When and where was your car built? ;)   At San Jose I've seen metal retainers similar to some of the firewall pad retainers

 added some more pics that does show a hole in the area that you mentioned

Think if you do a search we discussed these straps a while back. Or it could have been another forum
 found a topic or two that discusses these straps, with suggestions on making ones out of a 3/4" wide fan belt


You mentioned a plastic retainer - When and where was your car built? At San Jose I've seen metal retainers similar to some of the firewall pad retainers
 per footer Dec 66 SJ. the one retainer that survived is plastic, and the other forum topic talked about a "plastic rivet".  Mine is more of a push pin device and would have to dig out of a box to get a picture. Definitely not the same fastener as the long metal christmas tree type on my firewall pad, but then again I don't know if the plastic is correct.

A March, San Jose 67 convertible that I used to own had the plastic pins to hold the P/S straps in the two locations. The plastic pin is very similar to the plastic grille rivets used in 69. I would recommend that you stick with the plastic pins that you found on your early 67 Mustang.

Thanks Pete - don't know why I focused only on the use of the metal retainers

Did see some plastic retainers also - just one example

My 68 has the metal pin but I am wondering if a BB only uses one strap on the washer reservoir side of the shock tower. I only had one strap but have seem small blocks with two. I don't think there is enough room with the 390's width to get a strap in three without having the exhaust manifold melt the strap or a PS line.
