First of what should be many surveys. This thread is posted to collect data related to the position of the tire pressure decal applied to original 66 Mustangs build at Metuchen. To participate please read the following. Understand that this is not an often seen detail but in the same way its possible that since the location was less exposed we might find a higher percentage of originals verses reproductions.
- This is ONLY for 1966 Metuchen Mustangs
- Participants need to provide the cars VIN and the projected build date from the original door/warranty tag. If you happen to have the original date of sale that might help also
- If the glove box liner has been replaced don't post unless you have an original decal attached to the glove box door.
- If yours has one applied to the glove box door. Where is it attached
- Picture would really help confirm things.
So here is what we have so far for 1966 NJ Mustangs.
Pretty wide area of unknown. We need to keep an eye open for more original examples to tighten it up

So apparently the change was for all 66 Mustangs at multiple plants for some unknown reason. Can't think of a reason for the change or why it was important enough to make a change

Reply to Sgbbs: yes, that is a good theory as my label is ripped at the top, and that portion is gone. I think the label was too large for the glove box door unless it was perfectly positioned.

My question for this thread is in regards to the tire pressure decal placement for a first week of Dec. 65', NJ build. Buck tag confirms build was on Dec. 6th. Should this decal be on the glove box door or the back of the glove box insert itself?? VIN is 6T07C164XXX Thank you!!

Here’s a picture of a couple tire decals I have on hand. If you noticed the font of Mustang is quite different between the two and only one of the two has a ford part number at the bottom of the sticker. Let me know if either one of these would be OK to use or should I get a more current reproduction for use.

Sorry have not gotten time to go through pictures to help with your earlier (reply #10) question but for your current comparison of the two details IMHO
The one on the left has a superior font and a clearer more original looking font
The one of the right is more correct as far as how the printing is organized and arranged. Dividing lines are more correct and it includes the original style part number on the decal. Base Mylar material appears to be more correct also
So IMHO both fall short and I would look to see if the current reproductions are an improvement. Closer to the one on the right but with sharper and clearer fonts/printing

Thanks Jeff. I believe both of these reproduction decals our from the mid to late 80s? I’ll have to look at more current example and see if it’s a better match.

Looks like the one you showed in the earlier post on the left. Equal lines, no part number, printing different in the second from the bottom "box"
May be an older Osborn design

Sorry don't have all of the current reproductions here in front of me to compare and sites don't always post pictures of each decals. You might want to check out ECS' current offerings. For many of the other decals they have ones that are closer to original designs.
IF all there were was the two in your pictures I would go with the one that was more complete with the poor printing over the incomplete (one on the right in your picture) and not be surprises if someone mentions either if they saw them

Don't have anything in my pictures other than early and late cars so sorry no help in this quest

The one on the right with the part number at the bottom is closer to original. See pic of my original earlier in the thread

I came here searching for where the decal should go on my Oct 65 Metuchen built GT. I decided to go check out the glove box door that came on it and discovered that the decal was still there (I have replaced the glove box door with an aftermarket one).
