Hello
I wanted to pull the SS trim so I could paint the lower molding. 1st question is as I was grinding the river heads off I smelled galvanized coating. I do have cold galvanized so should I spray that? Or were they phosphate coated? If I phosphate, does anyone think at 212* will that remove the temper from the springs? 2nd question. After I removed the SS I see this molding section wasn?t painted behind the SS. It?s the same color as the back of the mounding. So is it worth pulling the SS? Or just tape cleanly and paint, after stripping.

I removed my clear anodized bright aluminum trim off the Mach 1 rocker panels. There was allot of thick paint that I stripping off, I also repaired the surface of the aluminum cladding. The OEM bright aluminum trim is valuable, I had it restored to remove chips and then had the correct clear finish put on them. My opinion is without taking the trim off the cladding you will have a mess and could damage the bright aluminum trim. I believe the clips for the bright trim are not easily replaced, I wouldn't grind them. I think they are phosphate, but not positive. Good luck

212 degrees is not near hot enough to detemper steel. I think you can phosphate around 180-190 if you are worried.
