Title: nonfunctional hood scoop
Post by: born2race59 on June 14, 2023, 10:18:34 AM
In other forums I can't seem to get a common agreement on how far back the nonfunctional hood scoop is mounted.  How far from back edge of hood?  Painting today and want to drill before pain. Thanks Jay

First welcome to the site. As others have mentioned, at this site the year, model and when the car was completed is very important.

Since you left us guessing I'ld guess that this is a 69 or 70 Mustang question

If so I would suggest not looking for the distance from the rear edge of the scoop to the rear edge of the hood but rather the location of the mounting holes or at least the two rear most ones. When you purchased a new hood from Ford they typically included a large sheet that was a full size guide to how and where to cut the hole for a shaker car and a set of holes and rear cutouts for the turn indicators on a nonfunctioning hood scoop. IF you can confirm I'll look for the pattern or someone else will provide the distances

As mentioned in reply #3 there are copies for sale of the template that came with service replacements/NOS hoods. The copy is very oversized so its not something you can with ease just photo copy. Guess you could take measurements from key points -that would likely work with the bolt holes but not so well with the turn indicator cut outs. So that is not a 100% help for you.

Do believe I have a copy of the full sized sheet I got with a hood decades ago

For others the drawing includes the 69 early pie cut outs under the nonfunctional hood. This is due to when the drawing was produced and publish and not something that applied to al l69's or 1970 models
