Title: 1965 Convertible quarter trim panels
Post by: Anghelrestorations on July 03, 2023, 10:24:19 PM
I just finished recovering these original trim panels, filling in the holes where the speakers were, and fixing cracks etc.  I have seen cars where they have trim panel screws in the front area by the door jambs to hold these panels in place, but dont see that the assembly manual calls for this.  Wondering if others have seen this or the screws attaching to the body are just like the assembly manual shows here which shows 4 screws per panel to the body.  This is a Dearborn build April of 1965.

There's 2 screws on the back, should see the holes in the panels and holes in the car.  2 more screws are used, one below the window crank and one at the end of the grained metal part

Looks like the small snaps were used, the only small snap should be the one on top of the grained metal piece.  The other 3 have flared out bottoms.

Unrestored examples from Dearborn cars built around the same time period as you listed above

Ok thanks.....no fasteners on the lower front portion then.  Just like assembly manual shows...that was an easy one.

I just finished recovering the quarter trim panels for my 1964.5 convertible.  I am ready to install the ash tray and wanted to make sure I mount them in the correct orientation.  I did some digging in this forum and came across these pictures as well as others.  It appears to me from my research that these ash trays are mounted incorrectly.  It looks to me like the handles should be forward with the door sliding backwards.  These pictures appear to be the opposite.  Am I wrong?

Yes in the original post it does appear that they were installed backwards
