I was looking through the 1970 electrical assembly manual and the battery hold down clamp appears to be the stamped and formed version. I purchased an NOS hold down clamp in ~ 1979 that is plastic. I have no idea what if anything it replaced. Does anyone know what is correct for a 70? Metal or Plastic? Or a change over date for Metuchen? Alan

Plastic is typical for the 70 model year. Model year change most likely with maybe some left over 69 stock being used up . Also the 70 hold down J hooks are longer because of the thicker plastic bracket . The J hooks are common because for many decades now the longer 70 J hooks were all that got reproduced.

Often the service replacements can be too long since they are generic for different applications. Always good to check
You'll need the L bracket too but guess you have that also with the hardware
Would, based on unrestored cars built at the same plant as yours, suggest that a metal one would not be original for your car and they were not "using up" old stock. That was likely just transported to the part supply line like so many other parts that were left at the end of production of 69's Some pictures of cars built prior to yours or about the same week

Great info, Thanks Jeff. The service replacement J hooks are likely longer than original. I don't have the small bracket. Alan

For anyone that may be looking for this bracket... I was able to find a repop L bracket on ebay with good reviews. I also purchased the AMK bolt. Thanks for your help. Not perfect, but one step closer.

just make sure to use the dodb plastic not doob as they look the same except offset different angle and the ones they were selling years ago were id wrong the doob was 71 up mustang dodb was 70 only mustang and the service replacement j hook was a d4az even longer than the 70-73 type.

I have a 70 hold down clamp. My J hook bolts are 8 5/8 from tip to tip. This is the same as the AMK bolt length. thanks for the input. Alan
