My 68 FB (Dearborn) 8F02J166xxx has had the fender aprons, and other metal, replaced by a PO. They're missing the holes for the wire loom hangars. The Electrical Assembly Manual only shows a general location. Looking at pics on this forum, I don't see any that get me as close as I'd like. What I'm hoping, is that one of you kind folks has a close perpendicular picture of the holes so that I can get very close to where they were drilled at the factory. I imagine these were drilled with position guidance and the guy on the assembly floor didn't just drill them anywhere he wanted.
1. There are two on the front drivers side apron.
2. There are two on the front passenger side apron near the solenoid.
3. I think there's one under the battery tray but not 100% certain.
4. There are four for the horn wiring.
Also, while I'm at it, the loom tie kit I purchased included a package of three "firewall" ties. I have no idea where they go.
Thanks,
-Richard

I think you get a more accurate idea by taking a piece of paper and some charcoal or chalk and doing a rubbing from a wreck or going through restoration car that doesn't have the ties in it. You could probably still do it on a car that had the ties init but it wouldn't be as clear. Maybe contact a local Mustang club foe help making connections. The flat ties attach to little mushroom heads on the firewall you can feel for them with your hand.

NOTE: Originally I posted a picture and description of the post and strap at the upper drivers side firewall for the flat retainer strap you posted a picture of. I posted the easiest picture I found but since the production date is so far from yours and I found others closer (strap was used differently) to your production period I reworded this post and opened a new thread to discuss the possible running change related to that retainer.
Richard, looked through the examples showing the use and location of the attaching pin the flat plastic straps were attached to and the method that were held Since these same and similar loops were used at other plans and years needed to focus on just Dearborn and as close as possible to your VIN since that is what you provided. I came up with two. Of course the location of this loop and the post is difficult to find in pictures focused on other details or the general area so sorry I don't have allot of them to offer.

This example appears to show that during the construction of this car they looped both ends to the anchor like the example above. 8F18222x

As for the location of the retainer holes for the wiring and washer hose Bob mentioned pictures will only possibly get you close but likely not exact and I agree but will post some pictures, as you requested in posts below

Passenger side forward inner fender panel
8F121xxx Interesting that it appears that on at least this car and maybe all early built cars Dearborn used the smaller wire loom retainer used in other areas rather than the big D retainer on that lower and possibly the upper holes shown in this picture. Something else to chase down ::)

Thanks all for the pictures. It helps. Some, I can get very very close based on the pics. A few are a bit more questionable. As advised, I'll find a local owner and trace them out.
That is odd about the "D" retainer. I wish I could provide some insight.
What does the flat retainer actually retain? It looks like it's intended for the headlight and transmission harnesses that come out of the firewall, but they don't appear to need to be supported that close to the FW.
Thanks again,
-Richard

Unless the change in the type of retainers (would need more to confirm - just can't use one example) took place on the same days your car was built I don't think its a concern for your specific car. Just something that popped up in the search and will need to be looked at for others and the site

The flat strap that connects to the post in the upper drivers side corner of the firewall typically retains the windshield washer hose from what I recall and have seen. Wire loom for the back up and neutral safety for the transmission is further in towards the center of the firewall

Right! In every picture I've seen, except that one, the "D" retainer is used. So without specific information to the contrary, I'll assume mine had a "D".
Ah, the windshield washer hose! That is the right location.
Thanks again!
