Title: 70 - 428 SCJ paint mark detailing question

I have been looking at pictures of correctly ( hopefully) detailed 428 engines, to get detailing ideas for mine.
I have seen several marked wit a handwritten number 2 on the front of the left l cylinder head. Can anyone tell me what this means and if it is something that my motor would have came with. I have looked in the library, but didn?t see anything that addresses that particular paint mark.
