Title: Bumper Bracket Assembly
Post by: Corey Bowcutt on July 04, 2024, 09:43:39 AM
I just disassembled the front of my project 64.5 convertible.  I was surprised to find that the two-piece bumper bracket support assemblies were actually tied together by a single bushing at the forward mounting location.  My only frame of reference is my 68 GT350 where these two pieces are completely separate (at least that is the way they were on my car).  I am wondering if this is common for all 65-66 Mustangs?  I looked up the supports on NPD and Virginia Classic Mustang and the brackets are sold separately and I cannot find the bushing that ties them together.  Is this bushing available anywhere?

Thank you,

Corey

I used to own a 66 coupe and have a shop manual so I was curious about this.  On page 17-15  of the manual sure enough there is a bolt sleeve in the front position.  I'm guessing if you looked at the assembly manuals for 65-66 you should find that part.  Interesting and not the case for 67-68s.

It's on the assembly drawing (the same for 65 and 66 Mustangs), shown as C4ZB-17841 (item 4 in the drawing below). It was used as an assembly line aid.

Interesting.  Thank you Guys.  I wonder if you can buy new sleeves?

Probably not. It's not listed as an item in AMK or NPD. The Ford service stock number is C1KB-17841-B with notes of "Cut to length" and "Not used after 12-1-64". No dimensions are listed.

Fixed the year of the date per Jeff. You have all heard this safety tip - "Don't drink and drive". Add this tip to the list - "Don't eat breakfast and type responses at the same time".

Not available as a new catalog part just like most replacements for the strut rod bushing thin metal tube that folds over the outer washers when originally installed some years.

Also I recall them (style of part not exact or close measurements) being used on other Ford applications and possibly some later Mustangs. Notes in assembly manuals would not typically reference anything in the future like details in other production years
