The Ford replacement pads i?m using have a buffer material on the outboard pad. See picture. Did assembly line pads have any sort of buffer material like this. Ive no knowledge on this sort of thing and wondering whether to remove or leave the buffer material when striving for original appearance. These will be visible behind the 6970 shelby wheels
Thanks

I do not think that was on the original pads - the originals and NOS ones I had I dont ever remember that being there.

+1 . FYI your 69/70 Shelby caliper detail is in the over restored range. Originally the caliper would have been painted with a brush maybe two inch or larger wide after it was installed . Since the caliper face was blacked out with a brush there not would be total coverage on the sides and there would typically be brush strokes evident. it would not be uncommon to see brush strokes over the exposed backside of the pad. Of course if not going with bare cast you would lay down a base of cast blast or equivalent before brush finishing.

Ahhh. Blacked out while installed. That should have been obvious to me now that i think about it. Thanks. I?ll take a few steps back and make adjustments

FYI the face of the rear drum was blacked out in the same way with the drum on the car before the wheel was tightened down. Typically there was no attempt to paint past the threaded lugs and center even though it happened from time to time. From the lugs to the center were not seen once the wheel was installed.
