69 CJ engine. I dont have experience installing the Thermactor parts in the photo. Is item D typically used on 428CJ. If so, does item D need to be shortened or trim to fit ? Is item D absolutely necessary. When i mock up this configuration in my heads, item D extended too far into the exhaust port getting too close to ex valve.
And any other words of wisdom about nuances of installing Thermactor set up would be appreciated. Thanks

Part C in your picture goes the other way around as you would have found out because it slides over the straight tube, then into the flare. The original flared tube extended to about the center of the exhaust port. I assume this was for optimum mixing with the exhaust gas. I always shortened mine to just barely extend into the port.
You are working with reproduction parts that always seem to need some fiddling.
