I know the reverse lockout rod was zinc. Were all the shifter rods plated or were some bare metal. I can see the remnants of the zinc plating on the reverse lock out rod but see no remnants on the other shifter rods. I also thought I read on here somewhere that some were bare. Any recommendations for plating? Thanks

Ed shared in the thread below that the rods were zinc dichromate
Found it using the search feature with the words "70 Shifter Rods"
Phosphate parts, 70 Dearborn- https://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=6248.msg35421#msg35421 (https://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=6248.msg35421#msg35421)

I used the search and found a lot of good info but nothing that said ALL rods were plated. I know I read somewhere that some were bare because I thought mine were bare because of no remnants of plating. After reading I decided not to plate mine. I talked to a friend that is the owner of Shifter Doc and said he never saw any bare. I have a tendency to overthink it. Who is Ed? Now if you had said Bob Perkins said all were plated... no offense Ed.

Guess I really should have posted his first and last name. Would guess (just from your screen name) that if you were from the Mustang and Boss 302/429 section of the hobby you would recognize the name.
Ed is Ed Myers. Long long time Boss 429 and other 69-70 Mustang and Shelby focused buyer, seller, historian, restorer, judge and much more. Some of his restorations have set record world prices - example the 69 Boss 429. Since your in the Cougar world you might recognize the Dyno Don Boss 429 Cougar, Ed restored it recently. Way too many articles and mentioned over the decades
Just a couple of sites referencing him and his efforts. Tons more out there.
