Title: Instrument cluster opening
Post by: ExportMach on June 01, 2025, 02:59:28 PM
My Mach had non tach instrumentation and it has been apart for so long I cant recall what if anything is supposed to be in this opening. It?s similar to the two openings in the dash clock body that has light bulbs seated in black plastic twist into place sockets. Maybe nothing should be in this opening for my Mach.

Did you look in this forum's library under topic "ConcoursMustang.com Official 70 Mustang Article List", then open the link to "1965-72 Ford Master Parts Catalog" (its real name is "Ford Car Parts" as shown on every page). Go to section "10-1965Illust-Electrical.pdf", then to section 106 page 15 which show the components for your instrument cluster.
Browse, like the Ford parts guy.

If I recall correctly that is for a seatbelt warning light. I have found several 1969 grande models with the light being used but never any other model. I have never found one hooked up in any 1970 model either. Seems to me I have seen several original dashes with a type of masking tape over the hole.

Shine a flashlight through the hole - all will be revealed.

I sourced a relay to get this going. Frustrating that its there but not used because it was not part of the convenience group.

Another thought would be to check the back of the hand brake pedal assembly to see if a switch is fitted.

This was the easiest idea to execute and the correct answer. Thank you all for you input, I tried pouring through the electrical assembly manual and didn?t see the seat belt light bulb in the diagrams. I have noted this discovery in my build diary and will put some tape over the hole.

If your car was optioned with "Deluxe Belts" (the buckles are chrome) in 1970 it would have had this light. There's a separate harness that has the lamp socket that goes in that hole and plugs into the main harness, and a simple switch that attaches to the parking brake pedal assy with a single screw...

Thank you for the information, my Mach has no options so it?s been easy to keep everything straight.
