Title: Mirror P/N C3AB17743 - Original Mirrors for 64.5 Coupe?
Post by: john_simms on July 10, 2011, 02:39:27 PM
I have a set of mirrors that were on my car when I purchased it.  It is a 64.5 coupe, VIN 5F07D113769 with a build date of 14 April, 1964.  The mirrors were not re-installed when I had the car painted back in the early 80's and I would like to put them back on now, but the original screw holes were filled.  I started to do some investigating and discovered that mounting bases of these mirrors are slightly different than the reproduction mirrors.  The first "3" in the part number threw me too as I thought these were probably for a 1963 model something.

Can anyone shed some light as to whether these are the correct mirrors for a 64.5 D-code couple or not?

Thanks.

John

Hello John;  I have one of these mirrors ( C3AB17743 & FoMoCo on the forward chrome face ) as well and have wondered as to what car it belonged on originally.  One of the concourse judges will have to chime in to add some knowledge and history.  I can share that the mirror appears to have been used on the early 65 cars.  The  ' Mustang Resto Guide '  Corcoran/Davis pg. 73 has a display with this mirror declaring it to be a type 2.  The mirror in question has a blunted forward mounting base all the others come to a point.  The mounting pad ( C3AB-17724-A ) and the mirror base are also wider than the others.  So, just a caution when mounting this mirror make sure you can open the wind wing before drilling any holes. I did go the the Ford Falcon Registry with this question and did not get a substantial responce.  Brian

Thanks for the reply Brian.  I found a reference to the same mirror on another Mustang site.  That owner had a June '64 built car.  I didn't realize there was a difference until I started to use the standard mounting template and found the bases to be different as you described.  I hope someone else will chime in with some additional information before I bolt these to my car.  Thanks again.  John

I believe most Ford mirrors in the lineup at that time would be accepted.
