Title: Survivor 73 convertable
Post by: nham3407 on November 04, 2011, 10:15:04 AM
Tried posting this yesterday, but it did not work.  One more time today.  Just as a bit of a back story on this car.  I went to NW Arkansas to document a 72 Mach 1 with a very nice restoration.  When I arrived at the owners garage he had this 73' blue and white convertable parked next to it.  The car showed 140 original miles with all of the factory grease pencil markings still on it.  The story as I was told was that a dealership in eastern TN purchased two 73' mustangs.  One being this convertable and the other a Mach 1.  Both were delivered to the dealership and put immediately into storage without any dealer prep.  In the early 90's both were acquired by Bob Perkins.  It is my understanding that Bob and the current owner reached an agreement on the sale of the convertable inclusive of several collectable Schwinn bicycles that this gentleman also collected.  I only have a few pictures of the car as my main focus was the 72' that you can see in the windoe reflection.  I have contemplated a return trip to better document the car, just have not been able to dedicate a 11-12 hour day for the drive to and from.  Hopefully this posting will work today.

Couple more photos.  Not sure why I cannot attach more than just a couple.  I assume it is file size.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Among other things they confirm that the PS adjusting bracket is natural as mine was. The MCA judging guide says it is SG black. It also shows the PS dipstick being SG black. Hmmm. Did the owner sell the 72 car? Chuck

Is he looking to sell the '73 convertible?

Yes he did sell the 72 last year.  He offered it through eBay plus a couple other listings (Hemmings, AutoTrader).  Last I heard he sold it to a person in Canada.  When I last spoke with him he was considering the sale of the 73'.  He builds aircraft as another hobby and was contemplating purchasing another one.  I can inquire if anyone is serious about it.

Thanks for posting - like the Pace Car Corvettes it seems allot of people purchased 73 convertibles to put away.

If you could, you might consider posting the VIN or a almost complete one to help place the car in the production year

Thanks
