Title: Shifter knob?
Post by: 69RavenConv on January 17, 2012, 12:29:38 PM
I believe the following is true for 1969 manual transmission equipped Mustangs:

My questions: was there a deluxe version of the 3-speed knob? I don't recall ever seeing one. Also, is there any other finish (white, chrome) that may have been offered and could be considered correct? Thanks again!

I believe the Deluxe Interior with 3 Speed did have a unique knob. Here is a photo

I suspected it existed, now I know. Thanks!

This is the only one I have seen. Probably pretty rare considering the amount of 69s that would have Decor Interior and 3 Speed Manual.

1968 would use the same type of knob, but like the 4 Speed Knob, the shape of the Top of the Numeral 3 is different between years. The 68 has a Flat top on the 3 and 69 has a Round Top on the 3. AFAIK

In a discussion on another forum, a couple of posters mentioned base model Mach I's they had owned with the 3-speed transmission. I assumed the Mach I would not get the bakelite knob. I agree that few probably survived, and many of those that did were probably upgraded with another transmission.

Also 69 3-speed knob had smaller threaded hole as the chrome handle was 3-speed unique.

In 69 the base Mach 1 came with a 351-2V & 3spd manual transmission. These cars had the woodgrain knob with white face. Most Mach 1s were ordered with the other engine options and 4spds. According to marti there were 5,693 Sportsroof mustangs built with the H code and 3spd. Probably less than half of those had the deluxe interior. Sportsroof production was 63A-56,022, 63B-5,958 and 63C-72,458 for a total of 134,438. So only 4% had the H code and 3spd.
