Title: PDB master cylinder cover color

Doing a low mileage 69 Mach I with PDB, Feb 69 Dearborn car.  Original brake master cylinder is intact.  According to Dead Nuts On, the whole thing was painted semi-gloss black.  The original cap on this one is not paint with the master cylinder. Could it come both ways?

In theory it could come both ways . Was it likly or typical? No. The service lids were unpainted silver. How do you know for sure that the lid had not been replaced at some point in the past? Bob

Semi-gloss black is what is currently the understanding. Interesting that the master cylinder is painted in your picture.

Well I talked to Jim last night and he assured me it was painted at some time,  the lacquer paint comes off very easy after the first wash.  I'll look it over real good for paint. - Dave

The other observation is that some surfaces do not hold the paint as well as others. Plated (master cylinder covers) or smooth (timing covers) surfaces seem to be the worst at this. And of course type of paint plays into it also

Dave any sign of paint on bail wire hold down and that white mark is a color code on side seen that before and have seen 3 70 m/c from low mile vehicles with no paint on lids but not 69s and have 3 nos m/c with black housings and cad plated caps.
