Good news ....Reading my March 2012 Issue of Popular Hot Rodding while in the reading room today, saw an article on "42 Hot speed Parts !" from the SEMA show has a nice picture of a 67 390 GT air cleaner that Scott Drake just released. Couldn't find it on their website so I called the number listed 800-999-0289. Gentleman I spoke to said 300 of them on order, coming soon, in their new catalog, not online, list $394.95. He also said it's only the non-emissions version. That is pretty reasonable when compared to the swap meet prices I've seen on restored ones. Thought I'd pass it along :P

Metal base or fiberglass? Base and lid, or just base?
-
Had not seen them but would have guessed they would be making the 49 state version and the non - emission ones for the other states
Interesting that they felt they would sell even though there seems to be plenty of T bird bases for conversions out there
Thanks for sharing

I saw that at SEMA too.
We mentioned to Scott and Jerry, that some or most of the tooling is done for eventual 1969-70 G code and Q code air cleaners. Plus 1968-70 R code and 1969 S code air cleaner bases too.
We also suggested making the lids available separately.

Which Tbird base is the same OD?

The 67 -
This is the same one that was installed on some Calif delivered 390 Mustangs and the one some use to fake the 69 CJ air cleaners from
Its the thin (low profile) base as used on the Mustang rather than the taller Fairlane style
-
The SEMA debut was a bit premature. It will be 90-120 days until we see these.
-
The picture shows a complete set...Base and Chrome lid with no emissions tubing connections etc.

This is great news!
Speaking of '67 390 Air Cleaners, I've seen at least six different styles on Mustangs over the years (and I'm not sure if all of them are correct for a Mustang). I think I've got the first two nailed down (C7ZF-9600-E and C7ZF-9600-F), but can anyone here confirm the part numbers for the next four, and/or comment on their correctness on a '67 390 Mustang?
Thanks,
Kevin

For Calif deliverer cars I've seen your #6 on a number of cars (and two pretty original cars I've owned). Sometimes with the blue T bird sticker even (on the chrome lid)
Its pretty much the T Bird base with the chrome Mustang and Fairlane chrome lid
The whole subject has fueled a number of internet discussions in the past and unfortunately not much documentation as to what was original

I think there is a early version of the Mustang one that uses the lid that are on the Fairlane ones in this picture using the smaller element and in the picture Kevin posted in the PCV discussion. http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=5000.msg28227;topicseen#msg28227
Speaking of which, Kevin do you have an air cleaner?

IMHO that looks like the Fairlane not the Mustang air cleaner base but with that angle you would ahve to measure the height to be sure either way
Have seen allot of owners use them over the years since the Mustang one is more difficult to find. Below are two examples of the open and closed version - C7ZZ-9600-F on bottom

I measured it without a lid and it is 3.5 which with a lid I don't see getting to the 4.22 the book says. it has a date of 6H stamped in it, looks original but I'm sure it could have been added.

Speaking of which, Kevin do you have an air cleaner?
The air cleaner that was on my car when I bought it in 1983 can be seen in picture number 4 of the attachment in my Feb. 3rd posting above (I believe the part number is C7OF-9600-B, but I'm not certain of it). I'm not sure if it was original to the car, but I have seen them on a few other early '67 390 Mustangs as well, so who knows...
Did the one you have at your shop come off of an early '67 as well?
(Or is it mine?)
Best Regards,
Kevin

Nope not yours, a guy dropped it off to figure out what it was he is going to sell it not sure how much yet, but it is dated correctly for your car! But if you measure yours if it is around 3.66" tall with the lid then it is most likely the original.
