Just confirming a couple color questions.....67 Dearborn, S code..
1.) The front shocks should be semi-gloss black ?
2.) The shock tower cap hardware should be natural ?
Thanks :)

Tim, what about the shock tower caps.... I've seen natural for them too but mine kind of look painted although I didn't clean them up yet.

The shock tower caps would typically be zinc phosphate finish unless SJ which are painted semi gloss black.Bob

Thanks guys. I took a closer look and it seems to be zinc phosphate. Under the dirt it was kind of hard to tell from semi gloss black.
I believe the MCA rules state 'natural'. Is a zinc phosphate finish considered to be 'natural'?

Tim is correct as usual however I answered within the owners parameters of 67 Dearborn S code. Don't make me come over there ;D

The description gives a judge latitude. In this specific situation if a judge didn't know that zinc phosphate was appropriate it would be a little embarrassing for him.

Yes which is why I answered natural. It does have to be the correct natural which in this case as Bob pointed out is ZP

You answered Yes to natural hardware... I was asking about the shock tower caps! :P
Ahhh, the 'correct natural'. Now I'm figuring it out. I was thinking natural meant natural as in bare metal..my bad. Still learning some of this judging stuff and to be honest I need to work on my finishes. ;D

Leave some extra time in your schedule and on your way by we'll head up the road to Pottsville....some real fresh Yuengling there. ;D
Thanks guys...

Think this is one of many items that could probably use a little clarity in the rules. You have to remember the premise for a lot of these rule tid-bits was along the lines of owners using something like cast-blast paint as a finish. It has only been in the past 5-10 years that the judging in MCA has gotten better at calling out correct finishes. Before I stepped down last year, we were working to require all correct finishes in the concours trailered classes and the intent was to go back through the rules and call out the correct finish anywhere that 'natural' was written. Not sure what will become of all that now, maybe Jeff has more insight?

Ive actually found that if you take parts which were originally phosphated but now rusty and you throw them into fresh Evaporust you may remove the rust and be left with a pretty decent phospahte finish. If the caps are in fact painted black then dont leave them in Evapo too long because the cheap black paint ford used just disolves and flakes off.
