Title: Bumper Markings

Guess this is as good place to put this as any - Digging around a yard the other day and I picked up a used bumper I thought I would save as a core.

Rolled it over to check the date and found that is was stamped Oct 1st possibly (IMHO likely) 1967

Also noticed a faint ink stamped part or engineering number.

Have not seen this before - typically there is nothing or on NOS items we some times still find a paper or foil invoice tag

Wonder if this is one of the very (given the date) service bumper /basically made at the same time they were stamping them for the line?

Just wondering if anyone else has seen the same marking?

I am with you I never have seen a stamp like that before. I have often wondered how the assemblyline parts could be marked . I had assumed by pallet but maybe by stamp too. Very interesting. Thank you for posting.

I'm looking for a nice core if you want to send it east!  I haven't see that before either.

Never seen an ink stamp like that....I just double checked to look thru all the bumpers I have here for 69/70 and dont see any markings other than the stamped date codes.  I may be buying about 30 to 50 original bumpers in the next few weeks that I found so could check them as well.

I bought a C7 NOS bumper last week in it's paper and it did not have any stamp on it. Does the stamp appear to be paint or ink?

Have seen service replacement normally wrapped in the "waffle" paper and then sometimes in the paper in a box.

The stamp is in ink (have stayed away from wiping it since I know it will disappear the moment I do that or attempt to clean the area) - like most of the stamped numbers we see on other parts- the few that are stamped this way.

There were a few more bumpers from the same period at the yard (Nov and Dec) and I didn't notice the same stamp on them, but then again I don't think it would hold up long exposed to the weather.
