I am restoring the fog lights for my April 68 Dearborn GT. The Osbourne FAM calls out 55738-S36 for the attaching nut, and C5ZB-15251-A for the spacer. I know the finish for S-36, but has anyone seen that finish for the nuts? Most of the original stuff I see appears to point toward a phosphate and oil finish (S-2). Also was the spacer bare metal or "finished", if finished, what was the finish?

No opinions, no original cars to refer to?

No good pictures of the back side of that assembly from me :( do recall the nuts being P & o as you mention but none of those were Dearborn 68's

Our 67 GTA has original fog lights and has S2 nuts and S8 spacers. Our 68 fastback has S8 nuts and spacers but they are not original for that car. Marty

Dont know if this question was ever answered but I do have photos of my Dearborn fog lights before restoring them. Ill see what I can find and will post.

What i found was that the washer was ZD as was the stud and the socket the stud mounted to. The nut turned light grey. Both finishes were observed after an evaporust bath. No blasting or replating done to the pieces. I am sure I have better pic but this all I could find quickly. Notice the blue paint daub on one of the light blue connectors. Original not reproduced. July Dearborn car.

Here is a before cleaning pic. Should show the ZD clearly. I flipped the washer over so I could see the ZD better as the opposite side was tarnished. You can also see the plating below the stud on the socket as well as the threads of the stud. Sorry for the poor pic but its off my phone. i can email you higher resolution if need be.

Thanks for the responses. A detail I was trying to pin down! The pictures were a big help.

It appears to me that although the mounting stud and socket received a ZD finish the socket was painted along with the rest of the housing after it was pop riveted on but the stud must have been masked off. This continues to confirm the theory that compnents having to do with electrical recieved the ZD plated finish.
