Last weekend in Pensacola I judged a 12K original 67 fastback that had wide ovals tires on it. The white side wall stripe was almost 3 inches from the rim. One of my fellow judges said that was the GM version of the wide oval. He has a 68 that he has owned since new and it came with the stripe very close to the rim.
I looked at the 67 & 68 show room brochures and they show the wider versions. I have not seen many 67 original mustangs but it makes me wonder if Ford used the wider version in 67 and changed to the narrow in 68?

There was a guy in the swap meet area that had three wide oval tires for sale - sorry didn't take any pictures of those :(

I have original pics of my 67 Indy Pacesetter and they have the white wall in the middle of the side wall. I will have to dig out the pics.
Here are some Ford pics.

Thanks Fran,
That's just the kind of picture I was looking for. Did you buy the car new? I am beginning to believe that Ford did use a different wide oval tire in 67 than in 68.
That is a cool car I would love to have a closer look some time. Do you show a MCA events? Marty

You are welcome Marty. I bought the car about two years ago and the original pics came with it. I belive I am the third or fourth owner. I am about a week away from finishing a full resto on my 67 Branded and will start on the Pacesetter next. I have been to a few MCA shows and I go to Carlisle every year.
Thanks,
Fran
