Thanks -

What is  "8FD"  I looks like a date code.  ebay has one on sale http://www.ebay.com/itm/260784117060?_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649&item=260784117060&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT&vxp=mtr " (http://www.ebay.com/itm/260784117060?_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649&item=260784117060&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT&vxp=mtr ")

But the last part of the number has 8FC.  What is a good source to find part numbers?  I know about: http://www.classicmustang.com/decoding_part_numbers.htm (http://www.classicmustang.com/decoding_part_numbers.htm) and http://mustangtek.com/ (http://mustangtek.com/).

Any good books?

There are a lot of date code formats that apply to specific parts or group of parts. Body part date codes are usually all numbers (see except) and do not have the year, just the month, day, shift and plant or manufacturers code (sometimes  there as a letter). Body parts usually do not have a metal stamped Ford part number, and the ones that do (service parts) are mostly paper or an ink stamp. Castings usually have a year (number), month (letter) and day (number, numbers). There are so many exceptions in format and placement (even by year) that it gets tricky. Ford's vendors used different formats and that make it even worse. Try to identify the Ford part number first which has a specific format but is not always present, then locate a 3 to 5 number/letter code which may be the date code. Also be realistic, a 67 or 68 part with no 7 or 8 but a 9, 0, 1, etc in what would appear to be a date code would indicate a service part, not factory.

Most of us are not looking for part numbers (often used to catalog parts or identify them in the parts system but instead the engineering or casting number that is placed on the part. Since many original parts were replaced by newer parts (and catalogs up dated to reflect this) often printed material is not very useful. Every year or so Ford would even publish a big book listing all the old numbers and related new numbers (of parts that "now" carried in stock) to help service personal and parts counters to find something that would work that they could sell the car owners

Just IMHO a consideration once you go down that path

Thanks for the replies.  I found this site very interesting: http://www.fomoco.org/Tech%20tip.htm (http://www.fomoco.org/Tech%20tip.htm). Good page on date codes and other things.  I think I have what I need to continue my search for a replacement radiator.

C7ZE-8005-B1 6KC  The 6KC seems to align with the date code based on my build date of Oct 26 1966

Just double check the data you find there - some was mined from other sites that took down the info - at least I hope so  ;)

thanks Steve.

My build date is 10/22/1966.  So you have the ideal part number.  I am not sure why this one does not have the 8005 in it.  But it seems clear that they changed the stamping some were around 68.  Anyway, I have a line on a few radiators that are close enough. Hopefully I will find one that is close to my build date.

Thanks for the help and advice! Much appreciated.

Just realized yours has AC and mine does not.  That may have something to do with it being a different part number.

I am not sure if AC made a difference.  I do have a different fan then stock - 5 blade.

NPD (8005-1D http://shop.autocraftinvestments.com/products/8005_1D-106091-2823.html (http://shop.autocraftinvestments.com/products/8005_1D-106091-2823.html)) makes no mention about AC in their replacement.  You can see the fittings for the transmission lines.

BTW my car was built in  Metuchen Oct 22, 1966.

For a 6 Cil car with AC it should have a 20 1/4 inch radiator with a fan shroud and as you mentioned a five blade fan.

The 8FD and 8FC are date codes.
