Title: 1969 Seat tag
Post by: bbs428 on August 11, 2012, 11:40:06 AM
While installing new carpet I stumbled across this tag under the passenger seat.
Did a search and no joy on this particular tag.

I suspect it's a build tag of sorts but I'm just not sure how to decode it.
Any insights are appreciated.

Based on a previous posting it is the part number for the frame subassembly including date, work order and other stuff. You won't find the part number in the Ford Car Parts book as Ford serviced a more complete subassembly up to the foam.

I still haven't learned how to completely decode seat tags. Each seat should have one.

I believe the tag identifies the complete seat assembly. 1969 Fastback-Coupe-Convertible Front Bucket Seats were all the same, except the High-Backs used in Mach1-Shelby-Boss and I believe your seat tag identifies a High-Back with the C9ZB-63 engineering number which identifies a Fastback Specific Seat. I can see that you have a Mach 1 and can tell that your seat is upholstered in the Mach 1-Shelby Pattern.

For Instance, a Fastback Rear Seat which is Fastback Specific will have a -63 Number and a Coupe Rear Seat which is Coupe Specific will have a -65 number and a Convertible Rear Seat which is Convertible Specific will have a -76 number.

A Standard Fastback with Head Rest Bucket Seat might have a C9ZB-65 Part Number because it is the same as a Coupe Seat. I'm not positive on that, Just a guess. Everyone feel free to check your seat tags for more confirmation.

Your Tag is also Dated 1 28 69.

Very cool.   8)

This was the only tag left from all the seats.  Learned something new today.

Thanks for the replies!

Should find them on fronts and rear bottom - possibly top rear of not a sportroof. Don't recall finding one there yet ;)

How would one know if 70 seat covers are nos or repro, they are new and in a box

If they are not installed I would look to the stampings/markings on the back side, the sewing and the color of the backing and padding to start.
