Title: 65 Disc Brake

Which way does the gasket go in ?  This is for a 65 manual disc brake car.  Take a look at the picture of the cap and the gaskets.    For the correct install, just as you see it, the one on the left or the one on the right ?  Thanks,  Brian

the left one. as the fluid level drops the gasket expands to look like the one on the right.

Thanks for the reply.  That is how it has been installed, Left example, and has always had a seepage issue.  The outside of the Master Cylinder bowl always has a wet appearance.  A closer look at the gasket reveals a set of seating/sealing rings on the up side away from the MC bowl edge.  It seems, to me, these rings would have more effect seating on the bowl edge rather than facing away from that edge.  That would be the RIGHT side example.  Thoughts ?  Thanks,  Brian

If you have seepage you may need a new seal . That would be more likely then the clips of the cap not putting enough pressure to seal the rubber against the reservoir lip.

I did get a new gasket from Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation.  Removed the Bendix DT 13 gasket, installed the new gasket as suggested, and will just see if that does the trick.  Thanks for advice.  Brian

There was a redesigned gasket released in late 66 to address some leakage concerns and some new fluid they were using on some cars

Thanks Jeff for that bit of info on the gasket.  Another one of those little known pieces of Mustang history that are not common knowledge.  Brian

Seems like I've always had some level of leakage with these things, tried several different gaskets, caps, etc.

Now I use a VERY thin coat of ultra black silicone gasket sealer, problem solved...
