Title: Need a 1967 Mustang left/right brake pad assembly diagram/picture
Post by: priceless on August 21, 2012, 06:44:13 PM
Can anyone supply a picture or diagram of the brake pad and attaching springs(with color of springs) for the right and left rear drum brakes in relation to the front of the car on a '67 Mustang with 289? Or can anyone just tell me where the springs and pads(long and short pad) go in relation to the front of the car?  I am having a brain freeze and simply can't remember.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Scott - has to be the all time most forgotten detail. Always have shops asking "which way does this go?" related to this subject

Guess I need to find time to redraw and colorize one for the site

Not sure if 65 and 67 are the same spring colors, but I'm guessing they would be close.  Note that the shoe hold-down cup washers should be zinc-dichromate.

Here's the LR of my '67. The color of the springs are located right as well as the self adjuster and other related components. My question is, my yellow spring wraps around the center anchor pin from the bottom and the green spring wraps around the anchor pin from the top. The diagrams showed by Krelboyne and Caspian shows the springs wrapping around the anchor pin opposite.  Will this be Ok?  When I pulled the hub, this is the way I found it,,,,Thanks for any input.

Note, the yellow spring is at the rear like it suppose to be.(Hint: the gas tank in the background).

Aren't your brake shoes on backwards?

Thats the reason I started this post, is for some help. Yes,now that I look at it,they are on backwards. This is the way the mustang was when I took off the hub. I'd like to see if someone could answer my previous post about the upper springs around the anchor pin.  Thanks for any help.

Yellow over green or green over yellow should not make any difference IMHO on how they perform
