Title: Underlayment

Hi Guys
About a month or so ago I posed the question as to where to obtain correct underlayment for my car.
Ssnakeoyl came up and I ordered a set.
I picked it up today from my shipper and had a look.
I have taken a pic of the original uner rear seat piece to show you. This is a 1/8" thick piece of stiff tarry card like material with a dimpled underside.
The new stuff is a tarry paper with a thin cotton jute underside and is very floppy.
Is this the best you can get now ?, it is nothing like what was originaly fitted.
The front pieces in the car are very bitty so I will have a job finding the original shape.
I was thinking of soaking some thick plain card I have in old engine oil then letting dry out. This would replicate the original stuff quite well in substance and colour.
Or have I just bought the wrong stuff and there is better available ?

There were different supplier of underlayment to Ford.  Believe that not all cars had the cardboard underlayment like your car. 

The top of the Snake Oyl does look like original '65-'66 underlayment and is floppy like original.  I have a problem with the jute backing as I do not believe the original had any type of jute backing.  The cut looks like it could definately be improved.

I have ran into the same problem as well..I had the same underlayment on my back seat and got the same material from Snake Oyl...Anyone else tried any other supplier?

Unfortunately, the Ssnake-Oyl stuff is the best you're going to find, unless you endeavor to reproduce it on your own, which could be very time-consuming and mixed results.

Depends on the time period and plant on these early cars from what I've seen. The later tar/jute/tar versions had different final outer layers depending on suppliers but as mentioned much later

And as Charles mentioned you have limited choices that will arrive in the mail from current suppliers. Other choices are donor cars from the same period or making stuff yourself
