Perfect! Thanks Tim! The water pump is the only non-original piece on this 60K original mile J-Code.

I've never seen the C8 H on a J code but they were used on 69 Boss 302s

Per Bob Mannel's book, "Mustang and Ford Small Block V8", the casting number should be C8OE-D, and his disclaimer states that C8AE-J is a replacement pump (Appen E, pg E-6). This caught my eye as I have a rebuilt pump on the shelf with casting C8OE-D. I can't find a traditional date code on it.

I have versions of both of these here at work. The C8AE-J has an additional drilled and tapped hole in the one boss (on the one I have here).
The difference between C6OE-A and C8OE-D is the size of the weep hole. 1968 is larger.

I don't usually find date codes on the pumps either, although I'm pretty sure I have seen some with date codes, not necessarily C8- pumps, but most of them I have had weren't dated. So, a Non Dated pump would be fine for me as long as it is the Factory Correct Pump.
I would like to make sure I source the Factory Correct Pump for this motor, it might eventually be Concours Judged. Its the only thing besides a Carb that is not correct. The Motor had an 85-86 5.0 Holley Carb on it. I got rid of that and would like to also find a correct carb but thats a Needle in a Haystack kinda thing. ;)
I also posted a wanted ad for a pump, so if you have one available then please PM me.

I had the original pump off my 350 rebuilt and it is a J. Also have another J code here thats never been apart and its a J

I have 2 J pump cores and have read somewhere that the C8AE-J were for A/C cars. Anyone else ever heard or read this? On date codes, I don't think any C6 or C80E-D had cast date codes.

I was thinking along those lines also. Tim, are either of yours from A/C cars?

I searched this old thread for information on C8AE-J water pump. I was working on a 68 J code engine today and noticed that the heater hose port on it has a larger diameter tube on it than the other models of water pumps I have seen. May be it is a higher volume pump than the other and that is why it was used on AC cars and extra cooling car. Just a thought
