The PO of my car put in 1970'ish Cougar (hard plastic looking things) under dash lights in my car and I want to replace them with the correct style. I have notice ones that were in a "L" shaped bracket and ones that were kinda "Teardrop" shaped. Searches across the Internetzzz have just added to my confusion. Some sites say the "L" shaped are right, others say the Teardrop and then the latest I hear is that the Teardrop shape is for the Passenger side and the "L" shaped one is for the driver. Anyone have an idea on what is right? I have looked in my Osborn Electrical Assembly Manual and I can see the "L" shaped brackets and they look like they are both (Driver & Passenger) installed with the lower portion of the "L" pointing towards the Drivers side. But I know sometimes the Osborn books are not right all the time -- any help/advice would be appreciated.

I am posting a couple photos of the underdash courtesy lights on my original 69 Mach1, built 2-24-69, NJ. As a reminder, Dearborn and SJ Mustangs may be different in appearance.
The DS appears to be a flat "L" shape while the PS has a slight curve(drop down) and "L" shaped. These are the original brackets that came in this Mach1.....Hope this helps.

If the plastic style you have are rectangular and something like 1/2"wide by around 2" (going by memory), it could be a 70 Mustang style. I do not know if later 69 or different plants got them before 70.

Mine was built 9Jan69 in Dearborn. They are the hard plastic like you describe -- I figured they were from a 70'ish Cougar since he also replace the headlight switch with one from a Cougar. The pics are what I though were the right ones. I have seen the Drake Repro ones shaped like a tear drop - and Drake says they are for a '69 but I have never seen them on an original car.

I always thought they were a decontent for 70.
If you compare 69 and 70 door harnesses at the underdash end, the 70's have one blue connector while the 69's have two, so where are these lights plugging in on a 70?
