Title: 67 tach
Post by: V8_bloke_28 on February 17, 2013, 11:52:00 PM
Hi, has anyone installed a 12 volt pertronix flame thrower I place of the original points?
If so, how did the factory tach work with a 12 volt coil when it's made to work off 6 volts?

The "flame thrower" is a coil the point replacements are either pertronix I or pertronix II systems. Ignitor II is a whole nother thing

Have used pertronix's on a few drivers and sometimes they work other times not (just pulled them from my 71 Cougar because they kept messing up, and the Boss (before I pulled the motor, would run nicely for about 20 minutes then back fire through the exhaust and die. Only to fire right back up after about 30 mins and run fine again.

On the Cougar the factory tack worked fine for the short time I had the pertronix in it. The Boss the tach would swing widely from time to time then go back to normal

Just my experience - not sure if your going to get allot of info given our concours focus ;) here
