I have a question regarding the original configuration of the shifter rods on my ’66 289 4-speed fastback. This is a Dearborn car, built Dec. 8th, 1965. I’m a bit confused about how to properly install the adjustable rod that connects the equalizer bar to the clutch fork.
I have maybe 1,000 miles on this car since its restoration, but I’m already starting to notice that the round hole in the adjustable rod is starting to deform from the pressure the equalizer bar puts on it when the clutch is operated.
Did Ford use any type of bushing or insulator to keep this part from wearing prematurely? Since mine is literally metal on metal, it’s wearing very quickly. Also, is the rod retained to the equalizer bar via one of those spring/hairpin clips, and does it use any washers?

The rod wears. Simple enough. No bushing, metal to metal contact. The pin question has an answer of yes and no. The picture may be worth a thousand words but does not indicated size, wire dia, length, etc. The documented pin is 352358-S2, 0.072in od wire, 1.09in L and available from AMK, it's the same one that is used on the arms.
