Had a good day today. Found a 3939S Hipo Fuel pump with Aug 6, 1964 date code. There apparently had been some discussion on the transition from the screw together type pumps to these, with the earliest known being Aug 28, 1964. This helps move the line back to the expected Aug 1, 64 date.
Was wondering if anyone had seen earlier pumps, or had any more information.
Thanks to Fred for the reference.
Did I mention it was a good day? ;D

Very cool! I've got to ask for the rest of the story. Where/how did you find it??
-
Well I can't reveal my sources ;), but....
A guy I knew had a hipo motor but didn't want to sell. Went back to check the fuel pump, and sure enough it was original. Worked out a deal yesterday and the rest is history. Blew me away when I checked the stampings and saw what it was.

PS: I still dream about finding one in a basket of fake flowers at a garage sale.
-
LOL - and at the same garage sale I notice something under a tarp - the one owner 65 Tropical Turquoise Convertible that the pump came off of. They parked it after the pump failed at 32,000 miles. Hey, if you're going to dream!! ;)

Haha. No doubt....dream big!! 8)

Found two 4201s that a guy sold me. Bought them both and had them restored by Fred Ballard. One of them is for sale now and the other will go on my k-code. It was two amazing finds!

Bought a used core for $10 at one of the MCA Pensacola nationals... very lucky. I actually didn't know it was a 3939S until I got it home and cleaned it.
