I picked up my car from the body shop yesterday afternoon, so I thought I share a few photos of the joyous occasion...
FYI - As I've mentioned in some of my other postings, this was never intended to be a concours car - so there are a few minor modifications here and there - but overall, it's mostly stock, and I've tried to duplicate as many of the original assembly line markings as I could...
Now I just have to put the interior into it, a few more bits in the engine bay and trunk, and then some decals...
Just in time to put it away for the winter!!
-
What a beautiful car! I love the color combination. What color is the interior? standard or deluxe? Congrats you have much to be proud of.
I can not understand why I like you car so much, here is ours. LOL Marty
-
Looks awesome! You'll certainly be counting the days for the spring car shows!
Danny

You certainly have something that all of us dream of--a car that is-- FINISHED!! Looks awesome Kevin. :D
-
Don't know if they are ever finished - sometimes its just the owner that is ;)
Its great that you've reached this point and I'm sure you will enjoy all the miles that will follow all your efforts
Too bad you live in one of those area where you have to put your car away due to weather. The anticipation will just build and build
-
Thanks all for your positive comments - they mean a lot coming from this group!
Marty - Your car looks great too! It's always fun to see '67 GTAs in different color combinations, and yours looks awesome in Dark Moss Green. Regarding my interior - right now it has a blue high-back "junker seat" from a '72 Mustang (just to move the car around), but I'll be sticking with the original 6U Deluxe Parchment. It should go well with my Nightmist Blue exterior (below is a preview with the back seat installed)...
Gary - I have to agree with Jeff, these cars are never finished - there always seems to be some little thing that can be improved upon!
Cheers!
Kevin

Sweet 67, congrats!

Did the 67 SJ convertibles have a trunk divider board like the OO unrestored car here in our area a 67 MET. convertible feature in MM years back?
-
Ours does. I am glad it was useable as the reproduction is not even close.
Marty
-
Marty is your car SJ as I was told sj never used the divider board but had a hard time believing that 1 plant didn't but the other 2 did?
-
Yes it is a SJ car built 11-4-66. It used some very usual clips at the top to hold it to the structure. I will have to see if I can find a photo.

That clip is used elsewhere look at 70 & up plastic rad top seal.

Yes, the '67 SJ Convertibles had the trunk divider boards as well. They attached with four "wafer-head" Phillips screws at the bottom (the same kind of screws that hold the well liner in place), and a couple of clips at the top (which I still need to find)...
I first purchased the NPD repro trunk divider, and as Marty says, it's not even close at all - more like a heavy piece of black construction paper. However, the reproduction that Jack Brooks makes (and the one that I ultimately used in my car) is just like the original...

I'll try to post a photo later tonight...

Here's a photo of the Dead Nuts On repro Convertible trunk divider installed in my car...
-
Any thing that Jack makes is very good. Here is what the top retainer clip looks like.
-
Thanks for the photo of the clip Marty - anybody know where I can find a set of these?

+1 Yep the odd narrowed one - as compared to the 69-70 San Jose one used for that purpose.
Marty how many were used/Needed?
-
Just three of them. I was going to check my 67 assembly manual but it is at the shop so I checked in the 68. The divider part#C7ZB-76546A06 Shield - Folding Top Compartment For R.P.O. Glass Back Curtain Only. Secured with 358407 clip 3 required. 380660 screw 4 required.
Our car has the folding back glass and has this part. I wonder if the standard top with the vinyl back glass would have not had this part? I will look at the 67 assembly manual tomorrow.

Beautiful car! Thanks for sharing. :)

Congrats from south of France. I own one of her sisters, it is a FORD FRANCE export car. Just finished a total restoration.

Beautiful car, Vintage Burgundy is one of my favorite Mustang colors. I have not seen it on a 67 GTA. What is your interior color?

Very nice too! Feel free to share more info and pictures.
By the way
WELCOME!!

Thanks July 65 - and welcome as well!
When it came time to paint our car, we went back-and-forth on Vintage Burgundy or Nightmist Blue. We ultimately chose Nightmist Blue, but I think both colors look great on a '67 GTA...
BTW - Here are some photos of another Vintage Burgundy '67 390 GTA that I used to see at various Mustang shows in the Seattle area...
-
Thanks for the welcomeS ... I've been seeking for those X code color on the web before retoring. Not too many s code gta arround. Thanks so much for those pics. Enjoy your blue GTA.

Thanks for the photo of the clip Marty - anybody know where I can find a set of these?
Been looking for years. Never found them. Not even listed in the AMK Guide to Ford Fasteners. Marty is the only owner I've found who has them, and have asked quite a few... the photo is the first I have seen of them.
If anyone knows a source I'm looking too....

Thing these are a wrecking yard piece (sure look like the same thing) unless you got lucky and opened a NOS package that had a bunch in it (sorry don't know the part number)
Found them on 70's big Fords radiator shields - retaining a thin piece black plastic that fills the gap between the radiator and radiator support like on 71-73 Mustangs and Cougars. Phosphate and oil finish They often get thrown away or not replaced when a radiator is replaced
Come to think of it West Coast Cougars might/should have some used ones ;)

Part number may be incorrect - plenty of non- factory details in the MPC's ;)
-
Jeff that clip does look like it but the part # listed in the 68 FAM is 358407.

Just trying to help with a possible source for the pieces
As far as numbers, it happens - other illustrations show other part numbers and of course we don't know for sure if any are correct :( Even the finish is listed is different than I've found them. Guess we need to focus on the stuff we "know" or at least have some comfort with and work from there.
In any case - don't thing we're going to be going to FORD to order any tomorrow so the part number might not play too heavy in the search ;)
On another thought we might need to split the topic if we chase this one too far on this thread ???
-
Not many pick-and-pulls down under with 70's era Mustangs! ;)

Quite the contrary, a part number, even incorrect, can lead you to a drawing, and in this case 358407-S2 is shown in the Ford Standard and Utility Parts Catalog, January 1965 (Jim Osborn AM0202) on page 33. The accompanying two measurements may be sufficient to identify the part, but insufficient to reproduce it. I also looked in Ford Car Parts to see if the Motorcraft stock number, GG-65, was listed under convertible parts but it was not (although sometimes you get lucky).

Pickings are getting slim here as well in the SF bay Area. In areas where junkyards used to be located, developers have put in businesses, apartments and shopping centers. I don't call it progress, I call it congestion. Periodically, I cruise the central valley of California (Speegle country) with a couple of "bow-tie" and Mopar buddies looking for parts, and even that is getting little results.
