Title: 6-Blade Fan
Post by: suskeenwiske on November 01, 2013, 04:57:48 AM
Can anyone decipher the numbers on the fan blade? No other numbers were found anywhere else on the assembly.

Thanks

Ray

Looks like it was made in March 67. Markings show the supplier/maker, The FoMoCo stamp and what I think in the part number for the supplier - not for Ford. Its also for a non-clutch style of fan mount

Double check the center web on both sides. Hopefully this isn't one of the ones they marked with an ink stamp :(

Would need to know the dia of the center hole and the dia of the whole thing to guess at an application but the year narrows it down a little

I found no trace of a possible ink stamping on the center web. The center hole diameter is 5/8" and blade to blade outside diameter is exactly 17".

Thanks

Given those specifications I could only come up with one application using a Aug 67 MPC (Master Parts Catalog)
Not allot of 6 blade fan applications in the 60's

C3DZ-8600-B
63 Falcon 260
64 Falcon 260
65 Falcon 260 w/automatic and Extra cooling
65 Falcon 260 w/Ford Aire

The date you found IMHO shows that this fan was a service replacement made after the production run.

Checking a later MPC  shows that by that time a different fan was listed for those applications - one of the reasons that the further after a production date of the application the less accurate the information is in the MPC ;)

Ray,
That fan is not the type used on a Mustang.
6 cyl with A/C Mustangs used a 6 blade fan
with a very aggresive pitch on the blades.
Here is a picture of one, send me a pm and
I can send you better pictures if you would like.

Great photo...thanks a bunch. As it happens I just purchased a 6-blade fan from eBay that looks exactly like the one in your photo. I noticed that there is a fan shroud in your photo also; is that a 6-cylinder shroud? I've heard both that they had shrouds and did not have shrouds for the A/C models, and no one has been real clear on the number of rows the radiator should have. If you can help with these questions that would be great.

Again...many thanks.

Ray, yes with A/C a fan shroud was used, the one in
the picture is correct for a 6 cyl, note the different
mounting brackets than what was used on a V8.
It is a special shroud used for the 6 that is not offered
in repro, originals can be hard to find but do show up
on e-bay, that picture was from e-bay some time back.

Just for future reference, Mannel's book covers fans for a/c by year. I don't have mine with me otherwise I'd tell you what year and engine that fan belongs with.
