Title: Original early alternators....rounded boss
Post by: Rsanter on November 18, 2013, 03:41:17 PM
I have over the years collected a bunch of the early alternators that has the rounded threaded boss on the case.
I am wondering what these are worth now days as I was thinking of selling most of them off.
Are there specific part numbers that are very hard to find or very valuable? That I should be looking through them to get

The cores do not have a high value relatively speaking . You may want to look at  http://www.deadnutson.com/catalog/item/7070330/7161139.htm  to familiarize yourself with the various differences because some cores are more desirable then others. I don't know what people are giving wholesale for desirable cores in bulk but individually they are hardly worth the trouble to sell IMO.You may try calling DNO and ask them if they buy cores and how much.

Thanks for the tip.
I called them and their shop is fairly local to me. They were excited to get more cores as they are running out.
You are right that they are not paying much for them but these are ones from cars I have parted out a long time ago so I was ok with their buy price
In fact I will likely just have them build me up a proper unit in exchange for some of my cores. This will get them out there for you guys that may need them.
If there is anyone that need a specific number let me know and I will look through as I pull them out

Jack always has difficulty keeping nice cores in stock - might not be worth a bunch of money but a fair number of them will add up. Jacks pretty easy to deal with (he's somewhat local to me also)  but remember to leave room for him to make some $$'s also.

Trade for other products will likely provide you with more return that a outright sale to him. Used this years ago when some were rebuilding voltage regulators. Think I got back one finished one for every three I provided. Just had to make sure I didn't get back one that the shop used an east coast core for :(
