Title: What color is correct for the oil cap? 67 NJ built Sport Sprint
Post by: hopeto on December 30, 2013, 05:09:56 PM
Car is a 1967 (June 67 Metuchen) Sports Sprint 289 - 2bbl car. The cap is the twist-on type without any hose connection. What is the correct color or finish? Thanks

Last set of MCA rules I've got handy appear to want a chrome one. Looking through my pictures (not all of NJ Sprints in there) only found one original style chrome (lots of service replacement ones) but many more black standard style.

Just about all black ones from my small sample seems odd since even the 6 cylinder Sprints got the chrome one - but being different would not be that unusual for Ford :)

Just reporting - we'll see what the others think.

Thanks Jeff, You and I are on the same page. The rulebook says "Sprint Option, 390 4V and 428: Chrome valve covers, air cleaner lid, radiator cap, oil breather and dip stick".
All my research shows that the only chrome upgrade for the Sports Sprint 289 was the air cleaner lid - nothing else - which leads me to believe a black oil cap is correct.

Any other input?
Thanks, Jimmy
