My car (Oct 69 Dearborn built Mach 1 428CJ) has the vacuum canister and heater box attached with the nuts shown in the photo. are these correct and if so what is the correct finish? I'm sorting parts out for the plater...:-). Thank for the help!

Most likely they need to be phosphate coated. However I could be wrong (though I know a majority of the under hood fasteners and parts should be phosphate coated). Check with a judge before going through the process of coating things in phosphate. I know Eastwood has a great product that allows you to coat things in phosphate at home.

The assembly manual calls for these fasteners to be phosphate and oil finish....however....I dont think that was what was typical used. Most of what I have seen has been a zinc finish. The same as what was used on the firewall heater/blower motor assembly.
On most cars it would have been covered with sound deadener anyway, or at least partially.

Its a diferent nut (at least on Dearborn cars)Similar to battery hold down nuts

These are the two different versions I have seen here. The first picture here below is what I have seen on Dearborn and the second on San Jose and Metuchen. But still not sure about the phosphate and oil finish. I have personally not seen that.

i would agree that the type of fasteners you've pictured would be zinc or zinc dichromate. I've typically seen a different fastener that as I said is like a smaller version of battery nut with spinning washer. Sorry I dont have picture handy
