In sorting out my fasteners I was looking at what I assume are my original eyelet bolts and comparing them with a pair I purchased. The new ones don't bear much of a resemblance to the old ones. The old ones have a bit of pitting. My question is whether the old ones are in fact correct for a 1970 Dearborn-built 428CJ Mach 1. If so is the correct finish phosphate and oil? Also wondering if minor pitting like that is a potential issue...Thanks for the assistance!

IMHO yes the lower ones look to be originals. Don't have a 70 Assembly manual for suspension but believe that they would have been heat treated (dark steel though not phosphated.
Can't recall if they are also safety red ( a die) over the finish, in 70 but sure Ed will be along here any time to give his reflections on the piece. Will leave the other nut question open for him also at this point :0
What you purchased looks like hardware store nuts and bolts IMHO

I know this is a little off this topic, but you mention safety red (a die).....How can that finish be duplicated.

I think the correct finish on the the original flange bolt and nut would be a -S100 which is typically the red dye. Dykem brand machinist dye is the most popular brand and you can get that dye from most metal/machinist supply places locally.
The reproduction bolts shown in the photos here are not even close to the originals. If you want/need something that is more original try AMK as they have a much better version that matches the originals.

Sometimes those "one line questions" result in the 20 response threads :0 and since you were a bit concerned with going odd thread the search helped out and kept the focus. All is good :)
