Title: 64 1/2 -66 scuff plates
Post by: Original K on January 19, 2014, 02:17:44 PM
I thought I knew it all about my original owner 64 1/2 K code coupe until a judge at the recent Disney grand national show told me the scuff plates were not correct. I had purchased original Ford tooling scuff plates, Daniel Carpenter, from N.P.D. They have rounded corners. That was a waste of about $80.00. He told me 64 1/2 Mustangs had plates with square corners so I went up in the attic and found my original plates with square corners. I sent them out to be cleaned and polished. I am still amazed how many silly and trivial part changes were made in those 4 months of production.

Welcome to the site

.......... I am still amazed how many silly and trivial part changes were made in those 4 months of production.

Many of the items people thing of as 64 1/2 details were really cover allot more months than just that period. One for wxample is the ealry style sill plates.

At San Jose they were used into December production. ;)

Just as many running changes or more in the 67 production year but they were dealing with more engine sizes and Thermactor on some. OF 65 they were just working the bugs out on a new model of car - lots of changes was typical.

Here is an example of the early squared corner sill plates

Old thread but figured it was better to add additional pictures and information here than start another thread.

The question was asked in another thread but it was only a small point in a larger set of questions so I choose to start a separate more focused thread here

The first/early design

Related top this I was asked yesterday about the retaining screws that were originally used. There are allot of different sized Phillips head screws that have small differences and on most cars the sill plates have been on and off many timers over the years.

Here are a few examples for others to compare to
