Title: 289 4V CHROME & Blue Valve Covers PBF
Post by: 67gtasanjose on March 03, 2014, 10:47:05 AM
Has anybody else had ever seen a set of what looks like original chromed PBF small block valve covers before. This set I have are the first ones I have ever seen, I've had them since about 1985 and they were found on a 67 Cougar XR-7 289 4V . They are chromed inside/out and the area inside the Power by Ford is back-painted Corporate Blue. I am curious mostly, but this car did NOT also have a chromed air cleaner lid, so idk, but maybe somebody had them chromed? Maybe just a Cougar option? They sure look nice on my SJ built luxury coupe, but wondered if they might be something rare too. Thoughts & comments, thanks! I've attatched a photo I found online along with another I took of the valve cover while still installed/dirty. The old stang has been sitting for over 15 years, but soon as the weather here in Ohio breaks, I begin the tear-down for a rotisserie restoration :)

Seen those for sale at swap meets over the years (new aftermarket) around here

Also the design stamped in the valve cover is a later design not original for a 67

 8) Thanks Jeff, I have always wondered about where they may have originated.
