Title: 428CJ Fuel sender electrical wire pathway
Post by: Kiwi428 on March 19, 2014, 02:41:54 AM
Hi Guys,
I'm at the stage of running the rear harness which feeds the rear lights, side markers and fuel sender wire. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of its exact position and fastening points. I have run it and can see where it is meant to go but can't see the clip positions and the actual hole for the fuel sender wire. I believe when the panel beater did his repairs he may filled a couple by mistake, not absolutely sure. All the clips on original harness are there just cant find the holes they fit into? I see the fuel sender wire was attached to the fuel tank hold down screws but no hole to allow it te sender unit??  :-[

Does anyone have a shot of theirs?

Cheers John

What car? Single or dual exhaust?

Sorry,
Its a 428 CJ Mach 1 with dual exhausts and staggered shocks. The hole for the rubber grommet isn't there so I'm trying to find its original postion?

Thanks John

This should work for you photos of Brian's NJ car.     Note the plug goes through the side panel.
I would expect to see tape on the frame rail in photo 1 (SJ car?)

Wire then routes with clip (or clips seen on some cars -SJ Jim?) on the underside.

Yes but would rather post pictures that might show were yours were originally ;)

So if you can at least provide where your car was built and what year (or even month) I can look for some examples

Awesome Brian,
I guessed as much with the cable lengths and clips that attached to the tank holding screws, but wasn't 100%. I can see where it comes through so will be able to judge pretty close. I see from the underside the first plastic clip fixing as well so this is great.
On the harness that feeds the rear lights, side markers and number plate light do you have a shot of where the clips go to hold the harness? The car had some repairs done here but nothing major so I would have expected to find these also? I had a look at a friends 69 Convertible and his were attached to the tail light framing? :-\
Thanks for the photos Brian, it looks like an original car?

From a spring Dearborn car - not sure if your car was the same. Other plants appear to be done slightly different ;)

Looks like one of the clips/retainers fell off or was missed on this car'

While we're here wanted to note the thread/stud sleeves/protectors ;)

We had a very good thread on this on the CJ Forum a while back, but when I found it the pictures were gone.  The ones you posted Mark were great.  I can take another one today and post.

Thanks Guys, the photos are on the button. Should be able to find the holes and if necessary put them in, if they are missing. The car is a Dearborn so I'll check out the rear harness points as shown in the photos by Jeff.

Thanks a heap guys, and no doubt I will have some more. This ground up restoration is a big job so taking it slowly, peice by peice.

John :)

Just for everyone else - while going through all my pictures found that there is a very solid pattern with black eyelet retainers being used for this application at San Jose and Dearborn  and white at NJ on 69's

Just sharing ;)
