Title: NOS vs. Repro. '67 Quarter
Post by: drummingrocks on April 25, 2014, 11:12:51 AM
Hi guys, I've got a '67 coupe that I've been working on off and on.  I'd like to go ahead and start tracking down parts and preparing to do the bodywork.  One question I have: I ran across a guy locally that had a N.O.S. passenger side quarter for a '67.  He bought it years ago, but ended up not using it.  I know for a fact that my car will need a PS quarter panel.  The guy wants $400 for the NOS quarter; however, I could probably get by with one of the repro. skins from NPD at $129.50.

Can anyone advise on the fitment of NOS versus reproduction? And what about the pricing; is $400 reasonable?  I don't mind spending the money, I just want to be sure I'm not throwing good money away.  I've used a repro. skin on my '66 coupe in the past, and the fit was excellent.  Anyone have any advice?

I would always go with original parts vs. aftermarket if at all possible. In your example the $400.00 quarter panel is a very fair price in my opinion, unlike some of the other N.O.S price tags people put on parts hoping to hit a grand slam. I see a lot of them rotting on E-bay and no takers.

I would not touch the $129.50 version, the $282.95 ones are decent.  Decent but it is pretty common to have to slice and dice a bit to get a factory like fit.  A Ford stamping for $400 is a no brainer IMO.  You'll spend more than that in labor/hours on the imports to get the right look.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too.

If it one of the older NOS panels in the red primer and the part number painted on in stencil....buy it right now
Even if it had a dent in it buy it now

If it is one of the new black primer NOS panels with the sticker part number those are not as good.
Ones from the 90s did not have the same quality standards and were being made in worn out tooling.
They are still better than the cheap repo panels but not as good as the early panels and not worth what those early ones are.

Personally if you can get a cherry used panels off a donar car I like using those. To me they fit the best
