Are the '65-'66 shackles detailed differently than those on the later cars? The reason I ask is that I thought the shackle bolt was dark/hardened steel appearance but I have photos of a top quality restored car where these bolts are silver (appear to be zinc or cadmium).
And I might as well also ask - in all cases the shackle plates would be bare/oiled metal and the nuts would be cadmium?

Don't think I've ever seen them plated - in any of the classic period ones. Over the years I've seen various plating used on restored ones though.
I restore mine with the hardener (slightly darker) shafts and the heat bluing around the shafts on the plate from the attaching of the stud to the plate.

+1 . I have seen one of the varieties of nuts phosphate. Typically they are cadmium.
