Title: 1969 Chrome Grill
Post by: groovygreen69 on June 12, 2014, 02:04:57 PM
I believe I have found a 1969 car that truely came with a chrome grill from the factory. It's a 1969 Going Thing Promotion car and is still in the hands of the original owner. 9F02R190000 (really!)  I found it at the Ford Nationals in Carlisle in the special editions display where I was showing my 1969 Limited Edition 600.  The owner had all of  the original paper work, dealer invoice, window sticker etc. Too bad he neglected to bring the build sheet. Not sure if all of the Going Thing Promotion cars had a chrome grill. I saw 2 others at the show, but they didn't have a chrome grill and it's possible that they had  their grills replaced. One of them was pulled out of a field after sitting for 2-years. - Chris ('manyc' from other forums)

Thanks for posting the picture.  I don't think I have ever seen one on a car.  Brian

I see that it's an Ohio car. Is it one of the Thompson Raceway cars? I've never seen one, only read about them, would like to run across one in person someday. I recall that it was a special promotion by a Cleveland area DSO and they were delivered at the dragstrip.

It IS one of the Thompsan Raceway cars and in the hands of the original owner. You are quite correct about the history. I had the priviledge of seeing 3 this past weekend at the Ford Nationals in Carlisle.  Hubert Platt was there taking autographs. He started up and raced the engine of the car and signed the hood for the owner. Very cool.

Very cool, thanks. I'll be on the lookout for future appearances.

Me likey the cobra in the grille. It is easily removed if need be and it looks like it belongs.  Excuse me, I must go to EBay now.

Allot of these grills were floating around in Ford boxes in the 70-80's just no one could figure out the factory application if there was one. Thought was that maybe it some something Ford planned on doing but never did. Sort fo like the 71 Boss 302 parts that ended up on Ford service department shelves
