Looking to buy a 65 vert made at SJ. Only problem is that it does not have the holes at the front of the inner fenders near the front hood bumper stops for the additional braces that verts normally have. Door data plate is a Marti reproduction so I can not check against it. Vin on inner fender says that its a vert though. Has holes for a Monte Carlo bar. I've heard of some 64 1/2 generator cars not having them but this is a Oct 20 1965 scheduled car. What's going on?

Those braces were a running change in 1965 (aka pre 64) and standard on 66 convertibles. There may be a TSB that Jeff posted here that gives more info.

The braces were added into regular production around Nov '64.
There is a TSB that describes how to add the bracing to earlier convertibles without them.

So is it a definite that this car was not originally a convertible even though the vin on the inner apron says that it is? Both aprons are without any holes for the original style braces. don't want it if it has been chopped and changed. Really confused here. :-\

I think your confusion comes from the fact that you think the build date of the car was October 20, 1965, when the build date was actually October 20, 1964. Since the braces didn't go into production until November 1964, as Charles noted, I wouldn't expect this particular car to have them unless they had been retro-fitted.

Hey Ivygreen,
That explains it! Thanks for clearing that up. ;D
