HI -I recently took my mach one cladding off of my 1970 mach 1.I'm talking the ones on the fenders OK. Well Ive never saw this before , you are suppose to be able to remove the letters but One side is moulded right into the cladding! Is this normal or did Ford do something to cheapen up this part? I can take pics one side has a diff part number or engineering number on the back side. ???Mark

From my understanding it was a running change from the individual letters to group of letters during the production year. Not sure when your car was assembled (didn't include that in the post :( but its highly unlikely that your car was at the plant at the time of the change over getting one of each. We've sort of touched on the subject a couple of times here on the site - search feature
Before you ask - I don't have an estimated change over date but would be interesting to see when your car was built. Always good to include it with all your requests IMHO

oh i did look up other prior posts on this subject I saw Ford had probs with the letters falling off . I should have known why they came out with the one piece part. :oMark

Just curious, which part of Georgia was it from, and do you know who the original selling dealer was? I'm in Georgia, and I once ran across a Mach 1 owner who's car had originally been sold right up the street from my house! Small world sometimes.... :)

My car came from Youngblood Motor Company they are in Madison georgia . I called them to see if they kept any records around but no such luck as i was looking to find my cars history. Mark

Thanks! The local dealership here has changed names several times over the years, but back then it was Stovall Motor Company. It's still in business as Billy Cain Ford, though I'm sure any records from back then are probably long gone. Again, cool to run across another Georgia car. :D

Years ago I had a 1969 mach with a scj in it and i purchased a original invoice from lois . Well the dealership that sold it was here in wisconsin and i called them to see if they had any records ok. The guy thought i was nuts ok but said Whats it worth to you? I said well how about 25 bucks? he said call me back in a hour ok! So I did and they had the record of the sale for that car! Well I tracked down the guy he lived in minnesota but when i called the number it was his boy and he said it was probably his fathers car and hung up on me. :'(Interesting story I dont have the mach anymore but still have the plates! The plates read scj 428) I found two invoices in that car ok. I made a copy of it also , i pieced together the two. Mark

Good afternoon all,
Does anyone have information on when the Mach 1 side cladding changed from pin on letters to molded?
I read a previous thread that it was a running change but could not find a date range for changeover.
Thanks,
Dan

Merging the post above and the request into a prior one
Making out the difference in pictures I have has been difficult to chart so far

My Mach1 was built at Metuchen on Oct 7, 1969. My rocker molding has individual letters.

I'm just now getting into this detail as well with my son's Mach. Like Alan's, it is a late Sept., early Oct. Metuchen build (don't have the Marti handy). The left side is original including the fender and has the removable A and 1 to attached the Mach 1 cladding. The passenger's side has an NOS fender and NOS door from what appears to be an early side swipe accident. This side had the one piece cladding without the removable characters. Guess I have the best of both worlds. ::)
To add, would the push nut to attach the early molding (behind the A and 1)be the same as the nut to attach the sport mirrors? I don't have a body assembly guide but the philips head screws and nut looked similar (I had to cut them off because the screw head was trashed and I couldn't remove the molding).

I couldn't find the early molding in the assembly manual. The later molding is in the manual. The one rivet nut used in the later version is P/N 382167-s36. The screw that goes in the rivet nut is 376369-S46x. The two rivet nuts on the sport mirror are 369556-s36. The two screws for the sport mirror are 382968-s45.

Great info, thank you Alan!

I have seen 3 different types of Mach1 cladding over the years. The two common types already mentioned and a third that I had only seen once which had individual letters but they were all permanently attached. It may have possibly been a second design with the cast in letters being the third and final design.
